Henri Maclaine Pont is perhaps one of the most recognizable personalities among Dutch architects who worked in the Netherland East Indies during the first half of the 20th century. Without necessarily knowing who MacLaine Pont is, architecture community of Indonesia is very much aware of his works, such as the old section, which is still the most impressive building, of the ITB campus in Bandung and the Puhsarang Church in Kediri, East Java to name the few.

Four Buildings by ir. Henri Maclaine Pont

Among buildings designed by Maclaine Pont listed by Akihary (1990) or mentioned by Helen I Jesup (1975 and 1989), only four are still standing. Ben T. van Leerdam (1995) only pointed out three of these four buildings without mentioning Poncol Railway Station, Semarang. While his non-building works such as his town plan for Darmo, Surabaya, is not well known and lacking in publication.
